Yamaha Motor is set to showcase its YE-01 Racing Concept at the 2026 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations (MXoN) in Ernée, France, where the electric motocross prototype will make an exhibition run as the Japanese manufacturer explores the future of electric off-road racing.
First showcased at EICMA 2025 in Milan, the YE-01 Racing Concept represents Yamaha’s vision for high-performance, zero-emission motocross racing and its ambitions to enter the emerging MXEP electric motocross category.

Scheduled to take place from 2 October 2026, MXoN will provide Yamaha with an opportunity to demonstrate the potential of the YE-01 as part of its longer-term plans to compete in MXEP, an electric motocross racing series scheduled to launch in the near future.

Developed in collaboration with French electric motorcycle manufacturer Electric Motion SAS (EM), the YE-01 combines Yamaha’s extensive motocross racing experience and YZ450F chassis technology with EM’s expertise in electric powertrain development. The project is built around the concept of expanding the possibilities of both riders and machines while retaining the excitement and distinctive character of traditional motocross.
At the heart of the YE-01 is a newly designed frame developed using technology and knowledge gained from the YZ450F. Yamaha aims to deliver high handling stability, precise control and a strong connection between rider and machine, maintaining the familiar riding characteristics expected of a competition motocross motorcycle.

The prototype also features a dedicated electric power unit jointly developed by Yamaha and EM, bringing together the companies’ respective experience in electric motorcycle engineering. One of its most distinctive features is a mechanical clutch, allowing riders to control drive force through a conventional clutch lever. This preserves an important element of traditional motocross riding technique while offering a different approach to managing electric power.

Yamaha’s development of the YE-01 also forms part of its wider environmental strategy. Under its Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050, the company is working towards carbon neutrality throughout its business activities and supply chain by 2050, continuing research and development into various technologies, including electrification.

Rather than viewing electric motorcycles as a replacement for conventional motocross machines, Yamaha sees electrification as another way to expand the sport’s possibilities. The company aims to retain the excitement and appeal of motocross while introducing new ways for riders and fans to experience the discipline.

With the YE-01 Racing Concept heading to Ernée for MXoN 2026, Yamaha is continuing to explore how electric power could contribute to the future of competitive motocross. Its exhibition run will offer fans an opportunity to see the concept in action and get a glimpse of Yamaha’s vision for the future of the sport.
