Yamaha R1 gets wings and other updates for 2025

By MRWadmin

Yamaha USA has announced key updates to its flagship YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M Supersport models, designed to further enhance aerodynamics, handling, and braking performance. Leading these updates is the addition of carbon fiber aerodynamic winglets for both models—technology refined through Yamaha’s extensive MotoGP® racing program. The standard YZF-R1 also benefits from a fully redesigned KYB® fork and all-new Brembo® front brakes, elevating Yamaha’s R-Series Superbike to new heights of performance.

2025 YZF-R1

The iconic R1 returns for 2025, representing the pinnacle of sportbike performance. Powered by the explosive 998cc CP4 crossplane engine, it continues to deliver the renowned handling and advanced electronics package that have helped Yamaha secure 13 AMA/MotoAmerica Superbike titles over the past 14 seasons.

For 2025, the YZF-R1 features lightweight Brembo® Stylema monobloc front brake calipers paired with a new Brembo® master cylinder for superior braking power and feel. The fully redesigned KYB® front fork enhances road response, feel, and overall chassis performance. New carbon fiber winglets improve aerodynamics and generate additional downforce, boosting front-end stability during braking and cornering. Lastly, the updated rider and passenger seat cover texture strikes a perfect balance between grip and freedom of movement, offering better control and a deeper connection to the machine.

2025 YZF-R1M

The 2025 YZF-R1M, Yamaha’s most advanced and exclusive Supersport model, stands out with its premium features and striking design. Its polished aluminum swingarm and full carbon fiber bodywork—seamlessly integrating the new carbon fiber winglets—give it an aggressive, race-ready appearance. An engraved, serial-numbered badge further emphasizes its exclusivity.

While it shares the powerful 998cc CP4 crossplane engine, comprehensive electronics, and lightweight aluminum Deltabox frame of the standard R1, the R1M takes performance to another level. It’s equipped with Öhlins® Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS), which uses real-time data from the motorcycle’s IMU—such as speed, lean angle, and brake pressure—to adjust the front and rear damping instantly for optimal performance during braking, cornering, and acceleration. The ERS offers dynamic tuning modes for both street and track use, as well as manual modes for traditional suspension adjustments.

Additionally, the R1M includes GPS-enabled data logging as a standard feature through Yamaha’s Communication Control Unit (CCU). This integrated system allows riders to record vehicle data, track lap times using GPS, and analyze performance on an Android® or Apple® iOS® app. The rider can then adjust system settings and wirelessly upload those changes to the R1M, ensuring a tailored setup for each track session.

For now, it appears that this release is limited to the US market, with no updates on whether the new R1 models will be available internationally.
