When Yamaha unveiled the all-new MT-09 Y-AMT, we knew it was going to be something special. But after spending time in the saddle, we can confidently say this isn’t just another MT-09 – it’s a bold new chapter in the Dark Side of Japan, now equipped with Yamaha’s innovative Automated Manual Transmission (Y-AMT).

Two Sides of Y-AMT

Yamaha’s Y-AMT gives riders the freedom to choose between:

  • D Mode – Smooth, relaxed shifting for city cruising or highway comfort.
  • D+ Mode – Sharper, more aggressive shifts perfect for carving through twisties.

You can also switch seamlessly between Automatic and Manual modes on the move, thanks to intuitive paddle controls and a fingertip see-saw shifter.

  • Engine: 888cc triple, delivering raw MT-09 character.
  • Transmission: Choose between full auto or manual shifting via handlebar-mounted plus/minus levers. In Manual mode, riders can shift without moving their hands from the bars.
  • Ergonomics: Revised handlebar and footpeg positions for a sportier, more connected feel.
  • Seat Design: New split rider/passenger seat for easier removal and a premium touch.
  • Mirrors: Slimmed-down design with improved rear visibility.
