Suzuki South Africa Delivers Another Outstanding Rider Training Day at Redstar Raceway

Suzuki South Africa once again showcased its commitment to rider safety, education, and motorcycle awareness with another hugely successful training day held at Redstar Raceway this past Sunday.

With more than 100 riders in attendance, the event brought together motorcyclists of all skill levels for a full day focused on improving rider confidence, awareness, and overall control in a safe and relaxed environment.

Unlike conventional track days where the emphasis is often placed on outright speed and lap times, Suzuki’s training days continue to focus on developing smarter, safer, and more skilled riders. The atmosphere throughout the day reflected exactly that, with riders encouraged to work on smoothness, braking techniques, body positioning, awareness, and understanding the limits of both themselves and their motorcycles.

The paddock itself was packed with an impressive variety of machinery. From lightweight commuters and naked bikes to adventure motorcycles, cruisers, sport bikes, and superbikes, the event welcomed everyone with the shared goal of becoming better riders.

Before the track sessions began, all riders attended a detailed safety and rider awareness briefing presented by Stuart Baker, head of Suzuki Motorcycles South Africa. The session covered important topics including track etiquette, rider behaviour, emergency awareness, vision, braking techniques, and the importance of understanding road situations before they develop into dangerous scenarios.

The riding groups were split into B, C, and D categories, allowing riders to circulate with others of similar experience and pace. Importantly, there was no A group, helping keep the environment approachable and unintimidating for riders wanting to improve their skills without the pressure often associated with full race-style track days.

One of the standout moments of the day came during the lunch break, when Suzuki once again hosted its always-popular car-versus-bike braking demonstration — a showcase that has become one of the most valuable educational aspects of these training days whenever time allows.

Using the latest Suzuki Hayabusa Special Edition and a Suzuki Swift, Stuart Baker demonstrated a crucial lesson that many riders often underestimate: no matter how advanced a motorcycle is, and no matter how skilled the rider may be, a car can almost always stop quicker than a motorbike.

The demonstration highlighted the importance of maintaining safe following distances, remaining aware of surrounding traffic, and never overestimating a motorcycle’s braking capabilities when riding on public roads. Watching the Hayabusa and Swift brake side-by-side served as a powerful real-world reminder of why rider awareness and anticipation are absolutely critical for motorcycle safety.

Another major attraction throughout the day was the opportunity for riders to sample the exciting Suzuki GSX-8R Cup motorcycles around the circuit. For many attendees, this offered a fantastic chance to experience Suzuki’s latest middleweight performance machine in a controlled and safe setting.

Off track, the paddock atmosphere remained relaxed and welcoming throughout the day, with riders sharing advice, discussing riding techniques, and enjoying the strong sense of camaraderie that has become synonymous with Suzuki South Africa’s rider training events.

By the end of the day, it was clear once again why these training days continue to grow in popularity. They not only provide riders with valuable skills and knowledge but also play an important role in strengthening and growing South Africa’s motorcycling community in a positive and safety-focused way.

Suzuki South Africa once again delivered a brilliant day of learning, riding, and community spirit at Redstar Raceway — and we already cannot wait for the next one.
