MY27 Ducati Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour: Full-Optional Travel

By MRWadmin

Ducati has unveiled the new MY27 Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour, a motorcycle designed specifically for Ducatisti who see long-distance travel as an opportunity for discovery and adventure, while demanding the highest levels of comfort, safety, technology and performance along the way.

The new Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour continues a philosophy that has been part of the Multistrada family since its first generation, with the concept of the Grand Tour drawing inspiration from the historic European tradition of long-distance travel described by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in his famous Italian Journey. Ducati has developed the latest Grand Tour as a motorcycle that is ready for extended journeys from the moment it leaves the dealership, combining comprehensive standard equipment with the performance and riding character expected from a Ducati.

The result is a Multistrada configured around the needs of long-distance riders, with virtually everything required for travelling in comfort already fitted as standard. From integrated luggage and heated seats to radar-assisted rider assistance systems, semi-active suspension and advanced electronic controls, the Grand Tour is intended to make long journeys more comfortable, safer and easier without losing the excitement of riding a Ducati.

The MY27 Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour is immediately identifiable through its dedicated livery, which combines elegant and sporty styling with distinctive Grand Tour detailing. Red graphics and Grand Tour branding are complemented by black finishes on the frame, swingarm, triple clamps, handlebars, risers and side cases, while the wheels feature dedicated Grand Tour branding. The rider and passenger seats also receive special detailing, further distinguishing the model from other versions in the Multistrada V4 range.

Ducati has placed particular emphasis on equipment that makes the motorcycle practical for extended journeys. The Grand Tour is fitted as standard with technopolymer side panniers that are integrated into the motorcycle’s livery and provide a combined capacity of 60 litres. The standard centre stand makes fitting and removing the panniers easier while also simplifying loading and unloading when the motorcycle is fully packed. The panniers and top case are positioned further towards the rear of the motorcycle to provide the passenger with greater comfort and freedom of movement, while the die-cast top-case mount provides additional sturdiness.

Comfort is further enhanced by heated grips and heated seats for both the rider and passenger. A hands-free fuel cap allows the rider to refuel without having to remove the key from their pocket, adding another small but useful convenience when travelling long distances.

Safety and rider assistance are also central to the Grand Tour specification. The motorcycle comes standard with a front and rear radar system that incorporates Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection and Forward Collision Warning. These systems are designed to reduce rider workload and provide additional awareness during long-distance riding, particularly on busy roads and motorways.

Additional standard safety and visibility equipment includes the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, which displays tyre pressures on the motorcycle’s dashboard, as well as additional LED spotlights, dynamic turn signals and a rear fog light. These features are particularly useful when riding at night, in poor visibility or in challenging weather conditions, helping the motorcycle remain more visible to other road users.

At the heart of the Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour is Ducati’s 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo engine. The Euro 5+ compliant powerplant produces 170 hp, equivalent to 125 kW, at 10,750 rpm and delivers maximum torque of 123.8 Nm at 9,000 rpm. Despite its focus on long-distance touring, the engine retains the performance characteristics that have become a defining feature of the Multistrada V4, delivering smooth power at low engine speeds, strong mid-range torque and substantial performance at higher revs.

The V4 Granturismo also incorporates Ducati’s Extended Cylinder Deactivation strategy. Unlike conventional systems that deactivate cylinders only when the motorcycle is stationary at idle, Ducati’s system can deactivate the rear cylinder bank under specific riding conditions while the motorcycle is moving. According to Ducati, this contributes to reductions in fuel consumption and emissions of up to 6 percent compared with the previous generation, while maintaining the character and performance of the engine.

The engine also uses a counter-rotating crankshaft, which works against the gyroscopic inertia generated by the wheels. This technical solution contributes to the motorcycle’s handling characteristics and helps Ducati balance the performance of the V4 engine with the agility required from a large adventure touring motorcycle.

The chassis is based around an aluminium monocoque frame combined with a steel-tube subframe and an aluminium double-sided swingarm. Ducati has repositioned the swingarm pivot to increase the anti-squat effect, with the objective of improving rideability and stability when the motorcycle is heavily loaded with luggage and carrying a passenger.

Suspension duties are handled by Marzocchi Ducati Skyhook Suspension Evolution semi-active electronic suspension. The system works continuously with the motorcycle’s inertial platform and uses a new fork position sensor together with predictive logic to adjust suspension behaviour in real time according to road conditions.

One of the technologies incorporated into the system is Bump Detection, which allows the suspension to anticipate and react to changes in the road surface. The system also features Auto-levelling, which automatically detects the motorcycle’s load and maintains a consistent stance across different riding configurations, whether travelling alone, with a passenger or carrying luggage.

The rider can adjust suspension response while riding through a dedicated control on the left-hand switchgear. The suspension provides 170 mm of front wheel travel and 180 mm at the rear, while the available preload adjustment range has been increased by 8 mm.

The Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour also features Ducati’s Automatic Lowering Device, which is designed to make the motorcycle easier to manage during low-speed manoeuvres and when coming to a stop. When the motorcycle’s speed drops below 10 km/h, the system can automatically lower the motorcycle by up to 30 mm. Once speed rises above 50 km/h, the suspension returns to its normal riding height.

The Easy Lift function further reduces the effort required to bring the motorcycle upright from its side stand. When the ignition is switched on, the system opens the suspension hydraulics, reducing the force needed to lift the motorcycle. These features are particularly relevant to a large touring motorcycle that may be carrying a rider, passenger and a substantial amount of luggage.

The Grand Tour benefits from Ducati’s latest generation of electronic rider assistance systems. The Ducati Vehicle Observer, or DVO, estimates the forces acting on the motorcycle by simulating the information provided by numerous virtual sensors. This allows the electronic controls to operate with greater precision and contributes to the effectiveness of systems such as Cornering ABS and Ducati Wheelie Control.

Braking is managed by an advanced Electronic Combined Braking System, which distributes braking force between the front and rear wheels according to riding conditions and the motorcycle’s load. The rider can also adjust Engine Brake Control through three different intervention levels, allowing the behaviour of the motorcycle during deceleration to be tailored to individual preferences.

The braking system uses Bosch-Brembo ABS 10.3ME Cornering technology, with twin 330 mm front discs combined with Brembo Stylema radial calipers. At the rear, braking is provided by a 280 mm disc with progressive-linkage actuation.

Ducati Brake Light EVO provides an additional safety function during emergency braking by automatically activating the turn signals, making the motorcycle more visible to following traffic.

The Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour also features Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Engine Brake Control and Vehicle Hold Control. Four Power Modes allow the rider to tailor engine delivery, while five Riding Modes — Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet and Enduro — alter the motorcycle’s overall electronic behaviour according to the conditions and intended use.

The inertial measurement unit plays a central role in the motorcycle’s electronic systems, continuously providing information about the motorcycle’s movement and position to the various control systems. This allows the Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour to offer sophisticated electronic assistance while maintaining a natural and predictable riding experience.

The motorcycle is equipped with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels, measuring 120/70-19 at the front and 170/60-17 at the rear. Pirelli SCORPION Trail II tyres are fitted as standard, providing a combination of road performance and the versatility expected from a large adventure touring motorcycle.

Lighting is provided by a full-LED headlight incorporating daytime running lights and Ducati Cornering Lights. The Grand Tour’s additional LED spotlights further improve illumination and visibility when travelling at night or in poor conditions.

The rider is provided with a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT dashboard, which displays the motorcycle’s riding information and communicates with the various electronic systems. Through Ducati Connect and smartphone mirroring, the display can also function as a colour map-based navigation system while providing access to compatible smartphone functions and music.

Ducati Quick Shift provides up-and-down quickshifting capability, while cruise control helps reduce fatigue during long motorway sections. The motorcycle also features Hands-Free Ignition, adding another convenience to the Grand Tour’s touring-focused specification.

Despite the extensive focus on comfort and touring, Ducati has retained the performance and handling characteristics expected from the Multistrada V4. The Grand Tour is intended to be equally comfortable crossing continents and tackling winding roads, with the V4 engine, sophisticated chassis and electronic assistance systems working together to provide a motorcycle capable of adapting to a wide range of riding environments.

Ducati has also focused on ownership costs and long-term reliability. The V4 Granturismo engine has a valve-clearance inspection interval of 60,000 km, helping reduce the frequency of major scheduled maintenance. The Multistrada V4 is also supported in Europe by Ducati’s Multistrada 4EVER programme, which provides a four-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

Roadside Assistance is included with all Multistrada V4 models and supplements the standard warranty with assistance in the event of a covered problem. The programme includes roadside assistance, transportation for the rider and passenger, a replacement vehicle and four-star hotel accommodation during the coverage period.

For riders travelling internationally, Ducati’s worldwide dealer network provides additional peace of mind, with more than 800 official Ducati dealerships located across more than 90 countries.

Although the Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour already comes with an extensive standard specification, Ducati also offers further personalisation through its Factory Made programme. Customers can configure their motorcycle with different brake-caliper colours, select seats and suspension configurations of different heights, or add carbon-fibre components, allowing the motorcycle to be tailored more closely to individual preferences without relying on extensive aftermarket modifications.

The new Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour is designed around the idea that long-distance travel should not require riders to compromise between comfort, practicality and performance. Its 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo engine provides 170 hp and 123.8 Nm of torque, while the combination of Ducati Skyhook Suspension Evolution, Automatic Lowering Device, Easy Lift, advanced braking technology and comprehensive electronic assistance gives the motorcycle the technology required to deal with everything from urban traffic to fast roads and fully loaded touring.
