Luca Marini Joins Tech3 Racing for 2027 MotoGP Era

What many had been expecting has now been officially confirmed, with Luca Marini set to join Tech3 from the 2027 MotoGP World Championship as the premier class enters a major new era of technical regulations.

The 29-year-old Italian will make the switch to Tech3 after bringing his three-season spell with Honda HRC Castrol to an end. Marini joined the factory Honda squad in 2024 and has since continued to build valuable experience at the highest level of motorcycle racing.

Marini made his MotoGP debut in 2021 after finishing runner-up in the 2020 Moto2 World Championship. Since moving into the premier class, he has established himself as a consistent and respected competitor, while also securing MotoGP podium finishes.

His arrival at Tech3 comes at a particularly significant time for the championship. The 2027 season will introduce a new generation of MotoGP machinery and regulations, creating what is effectively a reset for teams and riders across the grid. Marini’s experience at MotoGP level, together with his technical understanding and ability to work closely with engineers, could therefore prove particularly valuable as Tech3 adapts to the new era.

The move will also coincide with a new chapter in the relationship between Tech3 and KTM, with the team entering the next phase of its partnership with the Austrian manufacturer from 2027.

Tech3 CEO Guenther Steiner believes Marini’s experience and approach make him an important addition to the team’s future plans.

“Luca is a rider we have been watching closely, and we are very pleased to welcome him to Tech3 from 2027,” said Steiner. “He brings a huge amount of experience, but also the right mentality and approach for what we are building here. 2027 will be a big reset for MotoGP, so having a rider who can contribute to our progress in this new era will be important.”

Steiner also highlighted Marini’s ability to work with engineers and contribute to the development of a motorcycle, qualities that Tech3 believes will be particularly important as the team and KTM begin working with a completely new technical package.

Tech3 Team Manager Nicolas Goyon is equally confident that Marini’s experience will play an important role in the team’s progression.

“We are very happy to have Luca joining us from 2027. He has already shown his ability to perform at the highest level, and his experience in MotoGP will be extremely valuable as we enter this new chapter,” said Goyon.

For Marini, the move represents a fresh challenge and an opportunity to play a key role in shaping Tech3’s future during one of the most significant regulatory changes MotoGP has seen in recent years.

While the move itself had been widely anticipated, the announcement now makes it official: Luca Marini will be a Tech3 rider from 2027, ready to begin the championship’s new era with a new team, new machinery and a new challenge.
