Long-Term Suzuki GSX-S1000GX Update – Our Supreme Sport Crossover in Action

By MRWadmin

Our long-term Suzuki GSX-S1000GX has been busy, and we’re loving every kilometer with this incredible sport crossover machine. After its initial running-in service was completed at Primrose Motorcycles, we wasted no time putting it to proper use.

First up was a scenic ride to Hazyview for the Suzuki Weekend Away, always one of the highlights on our calendar. You can read all about the adventure, including how the GX performed, in Issue 55 of Motor Rider World.

Not long after, the GX-S1000GX was out stretching its legs again—this time at Red Star Raceway for Suzuki’s official training day. We served as a marshal and instructor for the full day, clocking over 500 kilometers of riding around the track. That’s no small feat, and the GX took it all in stride.

Most recently, we took the bike out for a relaxed run to Hartbeespoort, and there’s still so much more planned. Several mini-adventures and weekend rides are lined up, and so far, the GX is proving to be a reliable, comfortable, and surprisingly sporty long-distance partner.

From a comfort perspective, it’s one of the best sport-tourers we’ve ever ridden. If you enjoy the upright ergonomics of an adventure bike but only ride on the road, this machine may just be the sweet spot you’ve been searching for. The seat and handlebar position offer exceptional comfort, and the bike is remarkably composed over long distances.

The quickshifter and auto-blipper are among the smoothest we’ve tested—effortless and responsive, even under aggressive riding. Performance-wise, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a machine with a superbike-derived engine: plenty of power on tap and confidence-inspiring delivery. Fuel economy is excellent when cruising, though it can get a bit thirsty when you open it up (as you should).

Our only real gripe? The electronic top-speed limiter that kicks in around 220 km/h. It’d be great if Suzuki let it stretch its legs just a little more—something in the 250–260 km/h range would feel more in line with the rest of the bike’s character.

We’ve also been running the GX on a set of BATT HPll tyres, which have been through everything from Hazyview’s legendary 22 twisties in Sabie to high-speed laps at Red Star and regular road riding in between. These tyres have truly impressed us with their fast warm-up times, edge grip, and stability, all while maintaining a remarkably competitive price point. They’re performing far above expectations. (2300km done on them so far)
