Lawrence Seizes Control in Nashville as Davies Extends 250SX Dominance

The Monster Energy Supercross Championship roared back into “Music City” as Round 13 of the 2026 season delivered a pivotal night inside Nissan Stadium, with championship battles intensifying across both the 450SMX and 250SMX Eastern Divisions. Under the lights and in front of a packed Nashville crowd, Hunter Lawrence delivered a statement ride to take control of the 450SMX title fight, while Cole Davies continued his commanding run in the 250SX East class with another dominant victory.

Nashville marked the series’ return to the city for the first time since 2024, and the tension at the top of the 450SMX standings was reflected immediately in the racing. The 20-minute-plus-one-lap Main Event opened with Shane McElrath grabbing the holeshot, but the order quickly reshuffled as Justin Hill surged to the front ahead of Ken Roczen and Jorge Prado. Lawrence positioned himself inside the top five early, while Eli Tomac, who entered the round as a co-leader in the championship, found himself outside the top ten and already on the back foot.

Roczen soon took command at the front, setting a strong early rhythm as the field began to spread out. Behind him, Lawrence steadily worked his way forward, closing in on the leaders with controlled aggression. As the laps unfolded, Roczen and Lawrence broke away from the pack, running a pace that only they could match, with their gap hovering just over a second.

The race turned with just over eight minutes remaining when Roczen lost traction before a triple jump, allowing Lawrence to sweep into the lead. From that moment, the Australian never looked back. Roczen attempted to respond but could not match the pace, and his challenge was further compromised shortly after when a crash dropped him down the order.

Up front, Lawrence was in complete control. Smooth, precise, and unshaken under pressure, he stretched his advantage to more than 15 seconds and ultimately crossed the line 7.1 seconds clear of Cooper Webb to secure his fourth win of the season. Webb had recovered strongly from a poor start inside the top ten to claim second, while Roczen regrouped to salvage third, extending his streak of consecutive podium finishes.

For Eli Tomac, Nashville proved costly. Despite topping qualifying and winning his Heat Race, a difficult start left him buried in the pack, and a late crash ultimately relegated him to 12th—one of his toughest results of the season and a significant setback in the championship chase.

With four rounds remaining, Lawrence now holds a 10-point lead in the 450SMX standings over Roczen, who moves into second overall. Tomac drops to third, 15 points off the lead, as the momentum of the title fight swings firmly in Lawrence’s direction.

In the 250SMX Eastern Division, Cole Davies once again proved why he is the rider to beat, delivering a controlled and dominant performance from mid-race onward. The early holeshot went to Daxton Bennick, while Nate Thrasher quickly moved into the lead. However, attention soon shifted to the charging Davies and Seth Hammaker, who began cutting through the field with intent.

Davies made his move less than five minutes into the race, using his superior speed through the whoops to take control at the front. Once in clean air, he immediately began pulling away, while Hammaker settled into second before his challenge unravelled with a costly mistake that sent him to the ground and out of contention for the win.

From there, Davies managed the race to perfection, building a lead that grew beyond five seconds and eventually stretching to a dominant 17.2-second victory—his fourth win of the season. Behind him, the fight for the remaining podium spots delivered late drama. Hammaker recovered to rejoin the battle but was later penalised for cutting the track, dropping him out of the podium positions and promoting Devin Simonson to a career-first top-three finish after a strong late charge.

The final results saw Nate Thrasher take second after capitalising on the chaos ahead, with Simonson securing third following Hammaker’s penalty. The outcome further extended Davies’ championship lead to 29 points with three rounds remaining, tightening his grip on the Eastern Division crown.

South African interest was also present in Nashville, with Marcus Phelps delivering a determined ride in the 250SMX field. The Johannesburg rider finished 14th, completing the race one lap down but showing consistent pace throughout, including a best lap of 57.429 seconds in a highly competitive field.

As the championship heads into its final stretch, Nashville may prove to be a defining moment in both title fights. Lawrence has taken firm control of the 450SMX championship battle, while Davies continues to impose himself on the 250SX East field with relentless consistency. With the pressure now escalating and the margin for error shrinking, the fight for the 2026 crown is reaching a critical stage.
