Jonathan Rea to Retire from Full-Time WorldSBK Competition at the End of 2025

Six-time FIM Superbike World Champion Jonathan Rea has confirmed that he will step away from full-time racing at the conclusion of the 2025 season, bringing an end to one of the most remarkable careers in motorcycle racing history.
Rea first appeared in WorldSBK as a wildcard in 2008 before becoming a permanent fixture on the grid. Over the course of 17 seasons, the Northern Irishman has amassed an extraordinary record: 459 race starts, 119 victories, 264 podiums, 44 pole positions, 104 fastest laps, and an unprecedented six consecutive world titles between 2015 and 2020. These achievements have firmly established him as the most successful rider the championship has ever seen.

In 2024, Rea embarked on a new chapter, joining Yamaha Motor Europe’s WorldSBK programme. The partnership promised much, and while moments of brilliance were evident, his time in blue has been affected by injury and misfortune. Nevertheless, Rea and Yamaha demonstrated resilience and determination, with highlights including a wet-weather pole position at Assen and a podium finish at Donington Park in their debut season together.
Despite setbacks, Rea showed his trademark grit—none more so than his determined return from a serious foot injury sustained in Australia earlier this year. His professionalism, fighting spirit, and relentless dedication to the sport have continued to inspire fans around the globe.
With his future now decided, Rea will focus on making the most of the remaining four rounds of the 2025 season before drawing the curtain on a career that has defined an era in WorldSBK.
