Hand Built Master Piece – MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro
MV Agusta has unveiled the new Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro, a limited-edition retro superbike with a powerful 205bhp four-cylinder engine, restricted to just 500 units.
The bike’s arrival has been eagerly anticipated, following its initial concept reveal at an exclusive Milan dealer event in 2022 and a detailed prototype showcase at last November’s Eicma trade show. Now, the production model is available, priced at just over R1.2m. Despite the steep price, much of the limited stock has already been purchased by MV Agusta’s affluent clientele. It remains uncertain whether a more mass-market version will follow, though this is anticipated.
The Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro continues the tradition of previous Serie Oro specials, which began with the F4 750 superbike in 1997, known for its consistent paint scheme and luxurious components. This latest model features 41 carbon fiber elements and integrated front winglets inspired by the firm’s 1972 500 Grand Prix race bike. Despite Pierer Mobility owning 50.1% of MV Agusta, the design remains in-house, avoiding the outsourcing common to other KTM group machines.
The Superveloce is powered by an enhanced 998cc four-cylinder engine, also found in the Brutale 1000RR super naked, producing 205.2bhp at 13,000rpm. The engine includes titanium conrods, DLC-coated cams, titanium valves, and a balance shaft to reduce vibrations. The bike reaches 14,000rpm before the redline, with an under-seat four-exit exhaust system developed by Akrapovič, featuring a carbon fiber heat shield.
A suite of electronic aids manages the bike’s performance, including eight stages of traction control (with an option to switch it off), two wet modes, three road modes, and three track modes. Additional features include front lift control for optimal acceleration angles, launch control, an up/down quickshifter, lean-sensitive ABS, cruise control, and mobile connectivity via a 5.5in color TFT dash. The bike also comes with a satellite alarm and tracker, with a free first-year subscription.
The chassis components are equally advanced, with 43mm upside-down Öhlins forks offering 120mm of travel and electronic adjustability for compression and rebound (manual preload). This is complemented by an electronically adjusted Öhlins steering damper and a fully adjustable 36mm rear shock from Öhlins. The bike rides on unique partially spoked rims with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V4 tyres featuring exclusive red detailing.
Each Superveloce comes with a certificate of authenticity and a dedicated bike cover. An additional box of goodies includes a passenger seat in leather and Alcantara to match the rider’s perch, CNC-machined brake and clutch levers, and more.
