LIGHTWEIGHT CLASSIC TT STOPPED AFTER LAP ONE INCIDENT

The excitement of the Lightweight Classic TT was brought to an abrupt halt on the opening lap following an incident at Glen Helen. At the time of the red flag, Michael Dunlop led narrowly over Mike Browne, with Ian Lougher in third. Browne had taken the lead by Ballaugh Bridge before the race was stopped.

Riders involved included Andy Whale (26), who came off at Glen Helen but was conscious and talking; he was airlifted to Nobles Hospital for assessment. Dan Hanby (44) also crashed at Ballagarey and was reported as Rider OK, but he too was taken to Nobles Hospital for checks.

Following consultations with teams and riders, officials confirmed that the Lightweight Classic TT would not be restarted tonight due to the time required and limited daylight. A revised schedule for Wednesday, 26 August, will be issued in due course.
