Breaking News: MotoGP to Race on Adelaide Street Circuit from 2027

MotoGP is heading to a new home in Australia, with the Australian Grand Prix confirmed to move from Phillip Island to a brand-new Adelaide Street Circuit starting in 2027. Announced by MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, the South Australian Government, and the City of Adelaide, this landmark agreement will see the championship race through the heart of the city until 2032, creating a first-of-its-kind urban MotoGP event.

The Adelaide Street Circuit, unveiled on Thursday 19 February by MotoGP Chief Sporting Officer Carlos Ezpeleta and South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, will stretch approximately 4.195 km with 18 corners winding through city streets. Riders are expected to reach speeds exceeding 340 km/h on a layout inspired by the iconic Adelaide Street Circuit that hosted Formula 1 between 1985 and 1995, with modern safety measures ensuring riders can push to the limit with confidence. The inaugural Adelaide GP is scheduled to run across three days in November 2027.

In a special glimpse ahead of the event, Australian MotoGP rider Jack Miller had a first-hand look at the circuit map, which incorporates parts of the old F1 layout, blending history with a modern urban racing challenge. Premier Peter Malinauskas described the move as “a major coup for South Australia” and emphasized the broader benefits, including attracting visitors from interstate and overseas, boosting economic activity, supporting jobs, and showcasing the state on a global stage.

Carlos Ezpeleta highlighted the significance for the championship, saying: “Bringing MotoGP to Adelaide marks a major milestone in the evolution of our sport. This city has a world-class reputation for hosting major events, and the opportunity to design a purpose-built circuit in the city streets is something truly unique. Safety has remained uncompromised from the start, and every element of the Adelaide Street Circuit meets the highest modern standards, allowing riders to race at full intensity. Adelaide’s culture and commitment to major events make it the perfect home for MotoGP’s next chapter in Australia.”
The move to Adelaide represents a bold new era for MotoGP, combining high-speed racing, city-centre spectacle, and a festival-style fan experience designed to bring spectators closer to the action than ever before. This historic shift also underscores MotoGP’s global growth and the championship’s commitment to exploring new, dynamic venues. More details on the event, including ticketing and supporting activities, will be released as the 2027 debut approaches.
